The “Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink” fundraiser, benefiting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, is an event in two parts—a multi-skill level paddle boarding race and benefit party co-hosted by prominent New Yorkers Lisa & Richard Perry and full-time Hamptons residents Maria & Larry Baum. The morning paddle board race brings together hundreds of competitive paddle boarders and spectators, and is followed by a sunset party at the spectacular residence of Lisa & Richard Perry. This unique event was founded in 2012 by the event Co-Chair Maria Baum, a mother of four, investor, entrepreneur, and a partner of Tutto Il Giorno restaurants. She took on paddle boarding as an exuberant activity to help her cope through her own breast cancer diagnosis, treatment, and subsequent recovery and was moved to use the sport as a means to raise critical funds for life-saving breast cancer research.
The third annual event, held on Saturday, August 16, 2014, was the most successful to date raising over $1.5 million for BCRF. Fitness expert Tracy Anderson joined co-hosts for the SOLD OUT fundraiser. Other notable attendees included Leonard Lauder, William Lauder, Mary-Kate Olsen & Oliver Sarkozy, Ashley Olsen, Martha Stewart, Donna Karan, Gabby Karan De Felice, Jonathan Adler, Simon Doonan, Hilary Rhoda & Sean Avery, Molly Sims & Scott Stuber, Thom Filicia, Huma Abedin, Bethenny Frankel, Rula Jebreal Altschul & Arthur Altschul, Jr., and Lyor Cohen to name a few.
A surprise performance by synchronized swimmers, the WaterWorks, kicked off the evening sporting Lisa Perry + Solid & Striped swimsuits. Guests were then treated to a special set from four-time Grammy nominee Taylor Dayne, who sang her hit “Tell It to My Heart.” The highlight of the evening was the auction of one-of-a-kind Laird Hamilton Standup paddle boards designed and signed by Gwyneth Paltrow, Tory Burch, Aerin Lauder, Martha Stewart, Nicole Miller, Lisa Perry and Leviev among others. The party continued into the night with the backdrop of the Perry residence’s sweeping bay views and beautiful décor from Taylor Creative and Hilary Pereira Design.
ABOUT THE BREAST CANCER RESEARCH FOUNDATION
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) advances the world's most promising research to eradicate breast cancer in our lifetime. Founded by Evelyn H. Lauder in 1993, BCRF has raised more than $500 million to fuel discoveries in tumor biology, genetics, prevention, treatment, survivorship and metastasis. This year, we invested $45 million in the work of more than 200 researchers at leading medical institutions across six continents. By spending 91 cents of every dollar on research and public awareness, BCRF remains one of the nation's most fiscally responsible charities. We are the only breast cancer organization with an "A+" from CharityWatch, and have been awarded a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator 12 times since 2002. Join us at www.bcrfcure.org.
